Advantages
- Environmentally friendly – they are made out of a natural material.
- Fire and weather resistant-reduce the risk of fire damage and are less likely to deteriorate in hostile weather than other roofing materials.
- Long lasting -Providing installation and looking after them properly, they could stay looking good on the roof for more than 50 years.
- Versatile -can be used on both commercial and residential properties.
- Easy to customize – come in different styles such as, flat, profiled, and waved.
- Low maintenance – Once installed, clay roof tiles do not need a lot of maintenance. If spot any cracked or missing tiles, it is a straightforward job to repair or replace them.
- Maintain a cool environment inside the house.
Disadvantages
- Not 100% wind resistant –they are not completely wind resistant. They have higher wind resistance than other roofing materials but they can still move around or fall off your roof in high winds.
- Heavy -may not be suitable for buildings with a weak or lightweight structure as they are heavier than some other options. The weight of the roof could be a problem for the structural integrity of weak buildings.
- Fragile -Brittle tiles are more likely to crack when under pressure and shall not walk on.
- Clay roof tiles have to be carefully installed.
- High cost – A clay tile roof system with the framework may be costlier than other options.
- Installation difficulty – Installing tile roofing requires skilled craftsmen.
- Not suitable for all roof slopes – Tile roofs are suitable only for roofs with relatively sharp slopes.
